Trusted Expertise in High-Volume Digitization
IDI has an exceptional track record of delivering complex, high-profile, and high-volume digitization projects. With nearly three decades of successful project delivery, we have partnered with leading publishers, libraries, museums, and historical societies to preserve and transform valuable collections into high-quality digital assets.
Our customized workflows support both onsite and offsite projects worldwide, with millions of images captured at renowned institutions, including the British Library, Princeton University, and the New York Public Library.
Why Choose IDI?
Proven Large-Scale Project Experience: Extensive experience managing high-volume digitization projects for leading publishing, library, museum, and pharmaceutical organizations.
Proprietary Workflow Technology: Custom-developed software streamlines image cropping, inspection, sizing, quality control, project tracking, and the management of large image collections. Our secure workflow allows remote teams to perform designated processing tasks using low-resolution images, with completed instructions or files returned for automated application to high-resolution originals. High-resolution source images remain securely within our New Jersey facility.
Global Processing Capabilities: Established international partnerships and efficient overnight workflows enable distributed teams to support large-scale projects while maintaining centralized control over high-resolution source files.
Dedicated Library and Museum Services: IDI has successfully completed digitization projects for more than 100 libraries in the metropolitan area. We also developed DigiFind-it, a digital portal that enables libraries to display, organize, and retrieve digitized content.
Advanced Robotic Book Scanning: As a Kirtas robotic book scanner reseller, IDI operates eight Kirtas scanners to capture large volumes of bound materials while minimizing handling and protecting delicate bindings. Our trained technicians maintain these systems to help minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
Professional Microfilm and Microfiche Scanning: Our extensive fleet of dedicated microform scanners includes Mekel MACH 10, MACH 7, and MACH 5 systems, along with NextScan FlexScan and Eclipse scanners. Supporting 16mm and 35mm microfilm and microfiche, our equipment delivers high-quality, efficient digitization for large-volume projects.
Large-Format Scanning: Contex large-format scanners enable us to digitize maps, plans, and oversized documents in color, grayscale, or black and white.
Secure, Controlled Facility: IDI operates a secure facility equipped with surveillance cameras and passcode-controlled access. Our facility has undergone an FDA audit, and our employees are required to undergo background checks.
Trusted by Industry Leaders: IDI has earned the trust of eight of the world’s largest pharmaceutical and publishing companies for their digitization needs.
In-House Microfilm Production: Our Connecticut facility can produce microfilm and microfiche from digital images when long-term preservation or project requirements call for these formats.
Reliable Transportation and Handling: IDI maintains its own truck and dedicated driver for pickups and deliveries, providing greater control over the transportation and handling of valuable materials.
FAQs
Yes. Modern cloud systems are built with “API-first” mentalities. Whether you use Salesforce, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, or industry-specific tools like EHRs for healthcare, our systems are designed to sync seamlessly. This allows your team to view scanned images directly inside the applications they already use every day, eliminating the need to toggle between different programs.
For standard reading, we typically scan at 300 DPI. For archival preservation or rare manuscripts, we can go up to 600 DPI or higher. You will receive your files in your choice of format, most commonly:
- PDF: The industry standard for long-term digital preservation.
- TIFF: High-resolution, uncompressed images for archival masters.
- JPEG: Optimized for quick viewing and web sharing.
The “Gutter” Problem
One thing many people don’t realize is the “gutter shadow”—that dark blur in the middle of the pages. IDI uses Software Correction, to digitally flatten the page curve and removes shadows to make the digital page look as flat as a sheet of paper.
It depends on the method you choose. We offer two primary types of book scanning:
- Non-Destructive Scanning: We use specialized overhead “planetary” scanners and V-shaped cradles that hold the book at a gentle angle. This is “white-glove” treatment—the spine is never pressed flat, and no pages are removed.
- Destructive Scanning: If preservation isn’t a priority, we can cut the spine (disbinding) and use high-speed sheet-fed scanners. This is faster and more cost-effective but permanently alters the book.
Yes. We offer “Scan-on-Demand” services. If you urgently need a file that is currently in our queue, our team will locate it, scan it immediately, and securely email or upload it to you within hours.
We offer three options: we can securely return your documents in their original order, provide long-term archival storage, or perform certified shredding with a Certificate of Destruction once you have verified your digital files.
