February 2021
This week is Innovative Document Imaging’s 20th year in business. In our first year 2001, the tragedy at the World Trade Center Towers forever changed the world and now in 2021 the COVID 19 Pandemic has sadly taken over 2 million lives and dramatically changed the way we go about our daily routines.
Over the 20 years we have had the privilege of working with excellent clients and organizations to preserve history, back-up records and to design hundreds of portals and record management systems for our clients to access records and perform important research. IDI wants to thank our excellent staff (many who have been with IDI for 15 years or more) for their dedication, hard work and vision that has enabled IDI to reach this important anniversary and we will continue to do all that’s possible to deliver successful imaging projects for the next 20 years.
Some of the notable projects we have completed include:
The Gilder Lehrman Collection
East Brunswick TV, NY Historical Society Gilder video
A unique archive of primary sources in American history. It includes more than 60,000 letters, diaries, maps, pamphlets, books, photographs and ephemera that document the political, social and economic history of the United States. Including: A draft of The Declaration of Independence 1776, The Thirteenth Amendment 1865, An image of Abraham Lincoln’s Thirteenth Amendment, February 1, 1865 containing the article, resolutions and names and signatures of all the Senate and House of Representatives who participated in its creation and Christopher Columbus’ Letter to Ferdinand and Isabella 1493.
Evolution of Flight
Behind the Screen: Evolution of Flight
IDI working on location at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Virginia imaged over one million pages of material in several languages from the National Air and Space Museum Archives, Smithsonian Institution Archives and the National Air and Space Museum Library, Smithsonian Libraries. It sketches the lives and contributions of aviation’s pioneers, scientists, promoters, businessmen, barnstormers, racers, designers and manufacturers and aces (from World War I to Iraq). It is a treasure trove of images, personal papers, and commemorative memorabilia. Topics covered include the first theories and experiments of early flight, inventions, air races, the fighter pilot, African Americans and aviation, women and aviation, the evolution of aerial weaponry, navigational technology, landmark altitude and long-distance flights, Germany’s WWII jet program, the Cold War aviation race and America’s current air fleet.
Fukushima Nuclear Reactors
When a tsunami hit Japan in 2011 and the nuclear reactors were melting down, IDI received a call from a US Marshall requesting assistance. The tsunami had washed out all the Japanese computers and paperwork on nuclear containment. It turned out General Electric who built the reactors had all the necessary information on microfilm located in Chicago. The microfilm was delivered by a US Marshall to our East Brunswick facility the next day and IDI employees volunteered to work 72 hours consecutively to digitize and upload 1 million images on containment to the Japanese Government.
Royal Geographical Society
Inside the archives of the Royal Geographical Society with IBG
A digital archive collection of over 150,000 maps, charts and atlases representing the world’s largest privately held collection of maps, world gazettes and original manuscripts. The collection dates back to the 15th Century and contains some of the most influential geographers of the last two centuries have contributing to the collection. IDI has digitized over one million images from the archive at the Royal Geographical Society.
IDI Hosted Webinars for Libraries and Educators
IDI has recently hosted educators and librarians from all over the world in a series of live webinars around how to get started with digitization. Titled “Transforming your Physical Archive into a Digital Space”. These webinars were well attended, and we are now sharing the videos with our community. Check out the videos below and as always contact us anytime with follow ups or any questions on how to get started with your next digitization project.

Imaging Innovations An IDI November 2020

happy_thanksgiving_card.jpg
November 2020
The pandemic has drastically changed our way of life and almost everyone in the US has had to adapt new ways to work, study, shop, travel, dine, socialize and exercise. The team at Innovative Document Imaging continues to adapt and implement creative ways to service our clients. We wish all our customers, vendors and friends a happy and healthy Thanksgiving and please stay safe!
On November 5th IDI hosted a very well attended Zoom library digitization webinar. If you did not or could not attend please click on the link below you would like to view a recording of the session. The session included an informative interview with Sarah Hull the Head of Local History, Genealogy & Special Collections at the Plainfield, New Jersey Public Library and a DigiFind-It web portal demonstration which highlighted new features and functionality. The lucky winner of the drawing for an Amazon Fire Tablet was Amy White from the Buckingham Public Library in Dillwyn, Virginia.
Digital Imaging Webinar for Libraries
New IDI imaging projects include yearbooks, photos and a DigiFind-it web content management system for a high profile New York City independent school as well as Newspaper Almanacs for the Waldwick, New Jersey Public Library. We also started three pharmaceutical document conversion projects for two New Jersey facilities and one in Massachusetts.
In November we will begin a large microfilm to image publishing conversion for a University Law school and the New York court system as well as document conservation and imaging project for Princeton University. IDI has also started two other imaging projects for Universities. One for a California based University and the other for a Canadian based Universities. Both will utilize IDI’s fire resistant, water proof and crush proof Pelican Cases to safely ship their archival library content to IDI.
For those who do research on the NJ Historical Portal, IDI will be redesigning and launching a new improved version in the first quarter of 2021. The new site will feature the ability to key word search from a large collection of New Jersey City Directories.

October 2020
School is back in session with hybrid sessions and so is IDI. Our new headquarters will be completed in 2 weeks and we are excited and looking forward to moving in. The facility will adhere to all new COVID-19 related guidelines as our main concern is the safety of our clients and employees.
Currently IDI employees are working five different ways: from home, from our temporary facility in East Brunswick NJ, in our Shelton, Connecticut E-beam facility, on location at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts and in our Wakefield location in the United Kingdom.
We are pleased to announce two exciting upcoming IDI Zoom Platform Webinars. The first one is titled Imaging for Independent Schools on October 20th. The second Webinar is Imaging for Public Libraries on November 5th. Invitations will be going out via email very shortly. If you are interested please click the invitation link below to review the seminar agendas and to register. Don’t miss out as these sessions will fill up quickly.
IDI School Webinar Registration (October 20th 10:30am)
IDI Library Webinar Registration (November 5th 10:30am)
Imaging projects have started to return and IDI is currently digitizing: books for a New York University, newspapers for a New Jersey library, 35mm microfilm for a well know publisher, lab books and other intellectual knowledge documents for a pharmaceutical company, contracts for a music publisher and large drawings for a NYC housing project, maps and drawings for a construction company, and files for a local utility organization. We also have five employees working on a ongoing pharmaceutical NDA classification project.
IDI provides transcription services for our clients which is an excellent way to enrich a collection. We recently digitized lectures and sermons from audio cassettes for a publishing company and we are outputting both XML and text transcriptions. We are also completing a voluminous cemetery ledger project that includes both digital images and very detailed text transcription.
During the past 6 months we have added Digi-Find-it web portals for the Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Edison Public Library and John L. Street Library in Kentucky. Digi-Find-it Portals and imaging play an important roll in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic by providing easy access to history and files while studying, researching or working from home.
Sincerely,

IDI was pleased that our Digi-Find-it historical portals were very active during the last few months and that we could assist students with at home research.
We wish all our clients, vendors and friends a safe summer. Please contact us with any questions or projects you would like to review.

January 2020

Innovative News
As we welcome in 2020, IDI is breaking in a new year with new and exciting digital projects.  In January we will be digitizing hundreds of ledgers for a NJ library as well as newspapers for a historical society in North Jersey.
Two January document conversions include high speed paper scanning and indexing for HR files for a prestigious NY independent school and payroll records for a Construction Labor Union. IDI also recently completing scanning and archiving historic map plots for a funeral home in NYC. Having the maps available digitally allows the funeral home to now be much more efficient and systematic.
In January we will be digitizing a collection for the Edison Public Library. The content includes local records, photographs and newspapers. The library has also opted to host its content on Digifind-it on our popular cloud portal.
IDI continues to grow our business in the UK and we have now digitized over 250,000 historic maps and atlases as well as over half a million images from books for the Royal Geographical Society in London. Please take a few minutes to review a film clip regarding this exciting project.

Innovative News
The end of the year is near, and the holidays will soon be upon us. I want to wish all our customers, prospects, suppliers and friends a happy and healthy holiday season as we look forward to finishing the decade with a successful 2020.
In December we will begin yet another UK on location publishing library project as our reach and opportunities continue to grow on the other side of the pond. We have also completed a 400,000-page monograph collection in New England which will segue into a 1.1 million image monograph collection.
