IDI’s 2018 annual holiday party

January 2019

Innovative News
Welcome to 2019 as IDI begins our 19th year in business. As we kick off the New Year we look forward to working on exciting new digital projects both in the US and Europe.
In the first quarter of 2019 we will continue to scan for a University in Southern California including two projects with over 300,000 images of periodicals and manuscripts. We also will kick off a 4.5 million image microfilm/fiche project for a Labor Union at our NJ facility. Last week we set up to digitize a prestigious collection at a National Museum in Pennsylvania.
The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society has contracted IDI to digitize historic newspapers and have the PDF images accessible and key word searchable utilizing our popular Digi-Find-it Portal.
On Jan 1st, 2019 published works from the year 1923 became free for all to use and build on without permissions or fees that copyrights protected. Literary works by famous authors such as Robert Frost will be free to use and build on without permissions or fees. This is because in 1998 Congress hit a 2 decade pause button and extended copyright terms for 20 years given works published between 1923 and 1977 and expanded term of 95 years. Now each year going forward one additional year will be free of copyright. In 2020 works under copyright protection from 1924 works will be freed up.
IDI’s open access NJ history site launched in late 2018 has been a great success NJ Historical Portal. The site currently receives 800 hits per month and was only recently launched in October. We will continue to add new content as well as historical information from the year 1924 in 2020.

December 2018

Innovative News

We want to wish all our customers, partners, and friends a wonderful holiday season and a very happy New Year! We also want to thank our customers partners and employees for contributing to IDI’s success in 2018.

IDI has just begun a 1.3 million image project in the UK for a major University with the majority of the content coming from books. This project will run for most of 2019. We will also be setting up at the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia for a one month manuscript project in January. For NYU we recently completed 80,000 pages from a Jewish Newspaper in conjunction with the Israel National Library and the New York Public Library.

In December IDI will be completing 300,000 pages of Medical files for a large union and we’ll also be archiving 50,000 images for a local Doctors Office.

Hightstown Public Library has contracted with IDI for the scanning of their historic newspapers from both microfilm and hard copy and they also opted for IDI’s popular Digi-Find-it web portal for quick key word searched and attractively displaying the images.

As we close out 2018 IDI looks forward to 2019 which shows great promise for growth, new opportunities, new services and products for our highly appreciated customers and prospects.

Innovative News
In October IDI completed two on location digitization projects for publishing companies. One at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, consisting of 210,000 images of fragile wartime personal accounts. The second project was also on location at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. This was a collection on the history of food and drink held over 125,000 images IDI digitized from books, both bound and loose, manuscript, foldouts as well as 3D object photography.

IDI in October also completed a 312,000 image project for Princeton University which included a Women’s World Banking Collection, the John Dulles Papers, and the James Forrestal Papers.

The October 17th IDI seminar which featured an excellent presentation by Laura Hortz Stanton from the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts was a hit. The lucky winner of a brand new laptop computer was Jill Stafford of the Matawan Aberdeen Public Library. (pictured above) Thank you to everyone that attended.

IDI’s Connecticut facility now has the capability to produce the highest quality possible microfilm and microfiche from digital images at very competitive prices. Check out our new operation at: ebeamfilm.com.

The New Jersey State library has listed in one location all of IDI’s NJ DigiFind-It local history web portals at:   libguides.njstatelib.org/digitized-newspapers. This site lists newspapers by county and town and indicates which are available only in the library and which ones are available online for open access.
